>> Monday, April 27, 2009

Bollywood actor Mahima Chaudhry attended the Global Action Week, a programme meant to educate the street children, in New Delhi.

The seven-day-long Global Action Week aims at providing education to the underprivileged children.

Devi, a street child urged the affluent to help build schools for the children who cannot afford to go to a school.

"I request the leaders that they should build a small school for the children. If they can afford going on vacations in aeroplanes, they can do this too," said Devi.

Mahima Chaudhry, who has been consistently volunteering for the programme, said that she would open her own NGO for the uplift of the underprivileged children.

"I had come for this programme last year too. I really enjoyed attending it. I keep calling up the organisers what I can do to help these kids when I am not around. One day, I would also like to open up my own NGO," said Chaudhry.

The Global Action Week is part of the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) whose membership includes a broad spectrum of NGOs and trade unions that are active on education-related issues, one of which is Education International. (ANI)
